Chapter History

In the early 1960's twelve prominent men gathered at the Park Place Hotel for the first meeting of the Cherry Capital Chorus. Since then the chapter has grown to over 75 men ranging in age from 14 to 84.

The Chorus is a fun group, but they take their singing seriously. As a result of a professional learning and rehearsal program and high grade coaching from all over the country and Canada, the Cherry Capital Chorus regularly places among the top four choruses at Society contests. Yes, they take their singing seriously, as long as they have fun, and their audiences have fun along with them.

The chapter mission is to maximize our joy as Barbershoppers by musically being all we can be, while enriching our communities with great harmony and good works. They raise money through performance related activities (like concerts, Singing Valentines every February and CD sales) throughout the year. The Chapter donates over $7000 annually to hearing and speech related charities in the community and Youth singing in local area schools. Fulfilling a desire to perpetuate their good works in the Grand Traverse Area, the Chorus has become the newest member of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.
